Keystone State Sweep at the Tank
November 21st, 2009 | by Phillip Kern |The Sharks can now brag about having the Pennsylvania Sweep at The Tank after defeating the Flyers 6-3. Ok, so maybe this isn’t THAT big of a deal, but being able to dominate both keystone state teams is impressive nonetheless.
Remember when the Penguins came to town and were sent back with their heads hanging after a 5-0 loss? Well, this was eerily similar except for the fact that the Flyers offense actually showed up, not to mention some scuffles to give the fans more entertainment value.
Seriously though, when Dany Heatley is able to match an entire team’s scoring output in one night, that in itself is quite entertaining. Oh, and of course there is that whole booing Chris Pronger thing. Have you seen his teeth? I’d boo him just for his major dental fail. Then again, I digress.
Back to the stuff that mattered, fans were treated to a Heatley hat trick for the second time this season. I think he likes it here, that’s gotta count for something right? Add in the four assists by Joe Thornton, and even a some scoring contributions by Manny Malhotra, and you definitely have a little of something for everyone. By the way, If I did run a fantasy hockey team, anyone donning teal is a pretty good bet to help you win at this point.
Now of course, the Sharks only have so much time to savor this win because they make a trek back to the duck pond to take on Anaheim. On a totally unrelated note, I was a big fan of the Mighty Ducks movies, and thought it was the coolest thing to have a team first made famous by Disney put in to the NHL. I even cracked a smile when it was actually called the Arrowhead Pond. Alas those days are long gone, since they are no longer owned by Disney and even have a Cup title to their credit.
Back-to-back wins would do quite a bit, and they’re catching an Anaheim team really down on its’ luck. This is the best case of beating the teams that you are supposed to beat, and the Ducks fall into that category. Finally, I believe that the Sharks and their fans can move on from the carnage of this past April.
Besides, some of these players have Olympic berths to worry about, or aboot if you’re Canadian. See ya next time!
