Sharks Squeak Out Victory in Shootout
November 5th, 2009 | by Phillip Kern |Never mind that it is only November, there is some exciting hockey going on. How many times does a shootout put a fan on edge?
Apparently, with the San Jose Sharks, they seem to enjoy keeping fans on edge. They did so again with a 3-2 shootout victory over Columbus.
This game was more of a testament to how much better the Blue Jackets are these days, as is the rest of the Western Conference. Look no further than the recent games against the Los Angeles Kings, who are now garnering buzz as a potential playoff team. It will be a crowded field jockeying for those eight playoff spots, so it will make for a great playoff stretch run.
While the Sharks are still working out the kinks in their game, I really do believe that they are staring to turn a corner. The chemistry between Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton is improving with each passing game, not to mention the way Patrick Marleau has been playing this season. In fact, it would not be too far out of the question to peg Heatley and Marleau for 50-goal seasons at the pace they are on right now, perhaps even putting Jonathan Cheechoo’s franchise record of 56 in jeopardy.
No rest for the weary however, as the Sharks hit the ice again tonight to take on the Red Wings who have been struggling a little bit. It’s a little surprising that I actually put the words “struggling” and “Red Wings” in the same sentence, but of course it is early in the season after all. If anything, the Sharks are aiming to be what the Red Wings currently are, and even have the coach to help guide them there.
Should be a fun night of hockey, as it usually is. Enjoy watching!
